Science Meets Parliament

Science Meets Parliament (SMP) is Australia’s most powerful vehicle for deep engagement between the STEM sector and policymakers.

SMP offers an unrivalled program of bespoke training to forge deeper connections between Federal Parliamentarians and those working in science and technology. It helps build relationships to bring STEM expertise even more deeply into the service of the nation.

This event gives STEM experts a deeper understanding of how to engage effectively with policymakers, while helping policymakers connect with key experts in science and technology.

SMP highlights include expert-led professional development, a Welcome Reception, a Parliamentary Forum, National Gala Dinner, a televised National Press Club address, and opportunities for delegates to meet in small groups privately with Parliamentarians.

In 2023, Science & Technology Australia have built another ambitious program for this event.

Since its first event in 1999, Science Meets Parliament has been a keenly anticipated annual highlight of the Parliamentary calendar. It continues to deliver outstanding opportunities to elevate visibility, awareness and understanding of STEM within Federal Parliament, as well as in Federal Government departments.

In 2022, Science Meets Parliament was run as a virtual event. Delegate feedback was exceptional.

“The event exceeded my expectations. This was my first time attending and I felt that the virtual delivery enhanced rather than hindered participation”.

The virtual event in 2022 allowed for an additional 200 attendees to experience Science Meets Parliament (as venue restrictions were not an issue).

To attend SMP, make sure you're a member of one of our member organisations, and speak to your representative to find out how to attend.
