FASTS welcomes appointment of Chief Scientist.

FASTS welcomes the appointment of Professor Ian Chubb  AC as Australia’s Chief  Scientist.

“As  the  peak  body  for  science  and  technology  in  Australia,  FASTS  looks  forward  to  working  with Professor  Chubb  and  offer  him  our  full  support”  said  FASTS  President  Dr  Cathy  Foley.

“His  background  in  neuroscience,  together  with  an  unparalleled  understanding  of  the  research environment  and  the  higher  education  sector,  stand  Professor  Chubb  in  good  stead  to  be  an  effective Chief  Scientist.

“I  am  pleased  that  the  Cabinet  approved  Professor  Chubb’s  appointment,  a  signal  that  the government  is  serious  about  incorporating  scientific  advice  in  their  decision  making.

“More  than  ever,  parliamentarians  look  to  science  for  answers  to  issues  of  national  importance  and rely  on  the  highly  skilled  research  workforce  to  boost  productivity  and  ensure  Australia  can  compete and  prosper.
