Get Up, Stand Up, and Show Up: NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week 2022 logo with text of the year's theme: get up, stand up, show up. Alongside is the Science and Technology Australia logo, and both are on an image of a mountain and river at sunset.

NAIDOC Week is a powerful chance to celebrate the history, culture, and inspiring achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – the country’s First Scientists. We encourage the STEM community to Get Up, Stand Up, and Show Up with support for First Nations’ people and organisations.

Want to Stand Up and Show Up for First Nations’ people during and beyond NAIDOC Week? Then get yourself along to one of the many events being held this week. There are incredible things to do all over the country.

Want to Get Up and use your platform and voice to advocate for First Nations’ people during and beyond NAIDOC Week? There is a huge range of social tiles, Zoom backdrops and email signature images available on the NAIDOC Week site.

Want to Show Up with financial support for First Nations’-run #STEM organisations? Then dig deep and support STA member organisations The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance (ATSIMA) and Deadly Science. They are doing incredible work providing resources and supporting the next generation of First Nations’ scientists.

ATSIMA – led by the amazing Quandamooka mathematician Professor Chris Matthews – is an Indigenous-led charity creating new ways of teaching and learning maths by connecting mathematics to First Nations’ histories and cultures. Please support their vital work.

Deadly Science – led by the inspirational Gamilaraay man Corey Tutt OAM – has given over 25,000 science books, 700 telescopes, 10,000 Lego kits and other STEM resources to over 180 communities around the country. We are in awe of their work, so proud to have them as an STA member, and encourage you to support them.

We encourage the science, technology, engineering and mathematics community to Get Up, Stand Up, and Show Up for First Nations’ people this NAIDOC Week and beyond. And stay on your feet and keep showing up. We will.
