Dr Amy Wilson helps scientists across Australia grow bold ideas into breakthroughs for ovarian cancer.
Originally trained as a cancer biologist, Amy was drawn to science by a simple question: what happens when the cells in our body stop following the rules? That curiosity led her to ovarian cancer, one of the deadliest cancers affecting people assigned female at birth.
In the lab, Amy focused on ovarian cancer leader cells; aggressive cancer cells that act like weeds in a garden, spreading quickly and resisting treatment. Her research explored how these cells drive metastasis (cancer spread) and contribute to poor survival outcomes, with the goal of finding smarter, more effective treatments.
Today, Amy supports scientists across Australia as the Senior Research Advisor at the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. She leads national research engagement, shapes strategy, guides communication and advocacy efforts, and helps turn scientific discoveries into real-world impact.
An endometriosis and adenomyosis sufferer, Amy is passionate about self-driven health advocacy, especially for conditions that primarily affect women and AFAB individuals. Outside of science, Amy finds joy in crafting and pole dancing.
