Dr Amy Wilson

Ovarian cancer expert

Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation

From a young age, Dr. Amy Wilson was captivated by science "“ in particular, how cells can go rogue and cause diseases like cancer. This fascination led her to ovarian cancer, where her love of biology could be used to address research gaps and improve the dismal survival rates.

Her passion for understanding ovarian cancer led her to focus on a small but powerful group of ovarian cancer cells called 'leader cells.' If Amy is the gardener, leader cells are like stubborn weeds, spreading everywhere and resisting every effort to remove them.

Now, Amy has transitioned from the lab to an advisory role where she helps other 'gardeners', or scientists across Australia. As Research Advisor at the OCRF,

Amy leads engagement with ovarian cancer researchers, provides internal guidance on research advancements, and helps shape the research strategy, communications and advocacy efforts.

An endometriosis and adenomyosis sufferer, Amy is passionate about self-driven health advocacy, especially for conditions that primarily affect women and AFAB individuals. She is a health advocate on social media, speaks at community events, and mentors the next generation of women in STEM. In her spare time, Amy enjoys several crafting activities and is an amateur pole dancer.
