Crystal Forrester

Aerospace Engineer

Defence Science and Technology Group

Inspired by explorers who travelled the universe in her beloved science fiction novels, Crystal Forrester was inspired to become an aerospace engineer from a young age. Now, she is the Space Structures Lead (Aerospace Division) at the Defence Science and Technology Group, propelling space research in smart materials, advanced structures, and advanced modelling. These technologies will create a constellation of advanced satellites that are agile and self-healing, and provide Defence with the edge it needs in the current global environment.

Crystal has been part of the Defence science arena for over 10 years, providing advanced structural support for current and future aircraft. She has also deployed as an operations analyst, experiencing numerous unique challenges. She holds a double degree in aerospace engineering and physics, a graduate certificate in space science, and is recognised as a skilled leader by a graduate certificate in scientific leadership from the University of Melbourne.

Crystal’s dream is to play a significant role in the development of the space industry and space research in Australia. She has been the Royal Aeronautical Society (Melbourne Branch) events manager, the national point of contact for the Space Generation Advisory Council, and represented Australia in a number of national and international fora.

Crystal Forrester is a Superstar of STEM.
