Academic tutorRMIT University
Working as an academic researcher and tutor at RMIT, Dr Priya Rani holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from RMIT University (2019), Masters (By Research) (2016) and Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering from VIT University, India (2014). With her research, she has provided effective diagnostic tools for Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinopathy of Prematurity, Diabetic Foot Ulcers and Venous Leg Ulcers. Currently, her research work is focused on the use of artificial intelligence techniques to detect lesions in CT lung images of COVID-19 patients, and to detect Autism Spectrum Disorder in neonatal fMRI brain images.
She has been awarded with HDR (Higher Degree by Research) Student Leader award by RMIT in2019 for her outstanding leadership during her PhD, and IEEE Outstanding Volunteer award for her contributions to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Victorian Section in 2020.
She is a strong advocate of gender equality and promotes inclusion and diversity in STEM. In her teaching career to students of different age groups, she learnt that while the students enjoy studying science, there is a lack of confidence and a sense of fear to pursue it further. Hence there is a need to instil confidence among them at early stages, so these aspiring minds go forward to make significant contributions in STEM. She envisions a world where students feel motivated to study science and promotes it among the young minds of the community to make this a reality.
