Dr Fatematuz Zohora

Acoustic Engineer

WSP Australia

Fatematuz Zohora is an acoustic engineer dedicated to keeping communities safe from harmful noise while promoting sustainable infrastructure development. She specializes in assessing building and environmental noise—measuring, analyzing, and managing sound to meet safety standards, protect health and well-being, and support effective noise control solutions. Zohora collaborates with private sector clients, government agencies, and various stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure projects enhance community life rather than disrupt it.
Before her current role, Zohora was a Research Engineer at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane. There, she focused on condition monitoring for critical infrastructure, helping to ensure its safety, efficiency, and longevity.
In addition to her technical skills, Zohora is a passionate advocate for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). She is an active committee member of Women in Engineering and Mechanical Engineering within the Newcastle Division of Engineers Australia. Zohora has coached high school students through the Curious Minds program, served as an IMNIS Catalyst Ambassador, judged for the Hunterwise program, and visited schools to inspire the next generation of innovators. She also played a key role in organizing the successful outreach program at Merewether High School.
For Zohora, engineering is not just about solving technical challenges; it's about protecting communities, building a sustainable future, and sparking curiosity in future innovators.
