Kate Fairlie

Surveyor and land specialist

Land Equity International

When you walk out your front door how do you know that someone won't move in while you're away? How do you know that your neighbour has a licence or planning control to clear their trees or vegetation? Australia is a world leader in land administration systems and Kate is bringing this expertise to the world.

As a surveyor and land specialist, Kate Fairlie works with national governments and organisations like the World Bank to address complex land challenges. These span:

  • Assisting the governments of Indonesia, Ethiopia and Egypt to improve property registration
  • Reducing deforestation in the Papuan forests of Indonesia, through enhanced data collection and management, and improved spatial planning
  • Working with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification to identify how women can specifically benefit from global targets to reduce land degradation

An experienced researcher, facilitator, and newly qualified mediator, Kate is also a Trustee with the Aubrey Barker Fund, an organisation providing grants to support the surveying and land management education and training in low-income countries. Kate holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Surveying and Spatial Information Systems, and a Masters of Science in Sustainable Urban Development from the University of Oxford.
