Veterinary services underpin the social license by which all our diverse animal industries operate. In clinical practice, vets must learn to balance scientific acumen with relentless emotional resilience, often making high stakes decisions with limited resources and incomplete information.
I stepped away from being a clinical vet early in my career, driven by a desire to understand more about the molecular causes of cancer. I then spent over 15 years in research, first researching the origins of cancer and then researching innovative ways to make complex scientific information accessible to different people using strategic design and visualisations such as molecular animations.
Veterinary science continues to evolve and now, my work as the Director of the Centre for Veterinary Education at the University of Sydney focusses on making it easier for vets to access the information they need when they need it so that they can thrive and deliver the highest quality of care and welfare to their patients.
