Meredith Castles is an Interaction Design Science lecturer and researcher at the University of Tasmania, a science communicator, and a live streamer. She has worked extensively as an actor and writer in the TV, film, stage, and radio industries for over 20 years, regularly speaking on panels and MCing events Australia-wide. Meredith cohosts and helps produce the Eureka Prize–winning STEMM podcast That’s What I Call Science and solo-hosts a weekly live-streamed science communication show on
Twitch TV and YouTube, where she teaches science fundamentals through conversation and video gaming.
Her first STEMM love was Archaeology, and she remains passionate about bringing archaeological experiences to people through technology such as virtual reality and serious games.
Content creation is Meredith’s calling. She has pioneered the idea of ‘Conversational SciComm’—dynamic online content that invites people to learn naturally, without feeling like they’re being lectured to. Having performed science communication shows to audiences from gaming conventions to national science festivals, Meredith champions the message that “Technology is the way of the future and it’s our duty to be good designers.” She brings this message to a world in need of positive role models and compassionate leaders.
