Science & Technology Australia welcomes Misha Schubert as new CEO

Science & Technology Australia today welcomes Misha Schubert as she officially steps into the role of Chief Executive.

Ms Schubert said she was honoured to be a passionate voice for Australian science and technology, and she would work tirelessly to raise the profile of our scientific expertise.

“Building our national scientific and technology workforce is a great national imperative.

“When we think about the biggest challenges that lie ahead for our nation and the world, science and technology will be crucial to our ability to find smart solutions.

“To outwit new threats we face, science and technology are not just part of the answer. They must be front and centre in the race for answers.

“As CEO of Science and Technology Australia, I want to enhance the role of science in policy-making to navigate our future challenges.

“I will champion our nation’s frontline experts in these fields, drawn from a vast diversity of backgrounds, and help us ensure we honour their contributions.

“We must see science and technology as long-run investments that deliver vast returns to the nation in times of crisis. Patient capital brings returns many times over.

“I look forward to contributing thoughtfully to public debate and ensuring all Australians benefit from scientific advances and expertise,” she said.

STA President Associate Professor Jeremy Brownlie warmly welcomed Misha as she took the reins.

“On behalf of the Board, Committees and STA team, I am pleased to welcome Misha as CEO.

“Misha’s passion, leadership and talent will be an asset to STA and Australia’s STEM sector.

“Her appointment marks an exciting new chapter for STA, and together with my colleagues I very much look forward to working with her,” Associate Professor Brownlie said.

Ms Schubert joins STA following her role at Universities Australia, as Director of Strategic Communications. She succeeds Kylie Walker, who steps down at the end of the year, after serving in the role since 2016.

STA is the peak body for the nation’s 80,000 scientists and those working in technology. STA’s mission is to bring together scientists, governments, industry and the broader community to advance the role, reputation and impact of science and technology in Australia.
