Science & Technology Australia is delighted to welcome acclaimed marine scientist Dr Rachel Przeslawski to its Board as its new cluster representative for aquatic sciences.
Dr Przeslawski is President of the Australian Marine Sciences Association.
After 14 years at Geoscience Australia as a marine scientist and Director of Discovery & Engagement, she has recently taken a new role at the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
Her research investigates how environmental stressors affect marine invertebrates.
She has led over 100 collaborators to develop a suite of nationally standard methods for sampling in Australia’s oceans. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles on marine science and has a strong interest in science communication.
Dr Przeslawski will take up her role as representing scientists working in aquatic sciences following the STA Annual General Meeting on 25 November.
Dr Kathy Nicholson and Dr Karen Gregory have been re-elected unopposed to the STA Board representing the general sciences and medical and cognitive sciences.
Both have served with great skill and energy during their previous two year terms to connect the grassroots science membership into the STA network.
STA President Associate Professor Jeremy Brownlie said a key strength of STA was the voices of its membership represented in such high calibre talent.
