Dr Maja Arsic
Can you imagine a world beyond waste? A wealth of resources is hidden in our waste, that if captured, has the power to sustainably transform our industries and society. Growing a circular economy and bioeconomy (CBE) can support resilient agricultural and food systems, which face unprecedented environmental and climate pressures and supply volatility for critical inputs such as energy, fertilisers, and water. Harnessing this hidden wealth by transforming waste to usable resources can support agroecosystems, farming communities, and regional food security. Dr Maja Arsic's research spans transdisciplinary research boundaries for circular systems. Maja is a Winanga-y CERC Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CSIRO, Agriculture & Food. She holds a PhD in Plant Science (University of Copenhagen/University of South Australia, 2021), and a Bachelor of Science (Honours I), majoring in climate adaptation, environmental science, and applied chemistry (Griffith University 2015, University Medallist). Maja is passionate about working at the science/policy interface to engage with decision makers. She worked at the Department of Agriculture & Water Resources in Canberra on climate policy, biosecurity and agvet chemical regulation, and has a Diploma of Government (AIM). She is a John Monash Scholar (2017), an AINSE PGRA awardee (2019) and a Sir Samuel Griffith Scholar (2011). She enjoys STEM teaching and communication and co-founded an online STEAM magazine, North.
