A week of silence

Completely black rectangle to honour A Week of Silence.

Indigenous leaders who supported the Yes campaign have called for A Week of Silence to grieve and reflect on the referendum result. Science & Technology Australia honours this call.

Throughout the referendum campaign, we stood with Science & Technology Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander member organisations and our membership community in support of a ‘Yes’ vote.

We will continue to stand with you in the days, weeks, months and years ahead – and work with you for a better future. We will especially redouble our community’s commitment to contribute time, resources and energy to support the work of STA’s Indigenous member organisations and Indigenous STEM.

There is much work to do, but this week, we give space and silence to mourn and reflect.

The story of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on this diverse continent across an awe-inspiring timespan of more than 65,000 years continues.
