Nominations open for the STA Policy Committee and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee

Science & Technology Australia is seeking candidates to join our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee and our Policy Committee.

These are permanent committees of the STA Board. Terms are for two years.

Candidates wishing to apply to join the Committee should be a member of, or employed by, an STA member organisation.

We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from diverse faith, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and LGBTQIA+ identified STEM professionals.

Submit your application to info@sta.org.au by Sunday 3 July 2022. Please indicate which committee you are applying for. 

EDI Committee

Candidates wishing to apply to join the Committee should be a member of, or employed by, an STA member organisation. Please provide a brief biography (200 words approx.) and address the following criteria in a statement that is no more than two pages:

  1. What is your perspective on equity, diversity and inclusion in STEM? Please also let us know if you identify as a member of an under-represented group.
  2. What do you hope to achieve as a member of this committee? What does success look like to you?
  3. What is your relevant committee, board, and/or EDI experience?
  4. Please state your STA member organisation and confirm that this organisation is aware of your application to the EDI Committee.

Please view the Terms of Reference for the Committee and the STA Constitution before applying. The EDI Committee meets approximately 4 times a year.

Policy Committee

Candidates wishing to apply to join the Committee should be a member of, or employed by, an STA member organisation. Please provide a brief biography (200 words approx.) and address the following criteria in a statement that is no more than two pages:

  1. What boards and committee roles have you held previously?
  2. What experience do you have in crafting strategy for a STEM-related organisation?
  3. How would your skills and attributes help STA to bridge the gap between science and policy?
  4. What do you want to achieve for science and technology in Australia?

Please view the Terms of Reference for the Committee and the STA Constitution before applying. The Policy committee meets monthly.
