Dr Julia Gilmartin-Thomas
The Australian Aged Care sector is in crisis. Substandard care is pervasive, including in medicine management. Dr Julia Gilmartin-Thomas' Quality Use of Medicines in Aged Care Research Program is addressing Australia's National Health Priority Area Quality Use of Medicines and Medicines Safety' and limitations identified by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
Julia is a leading Australian Pharmacist and Public Health Early-Mid Career Researcher woman in STEM, with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice, PhD and Master of Biostatistics from Monash University. She leads her Research Program as NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellow (Victoria University).
Julia is passionate about research translation with 40 publications, 70 conference/seminar presentations (25 international) and securing $1 million in funding.
She brings national and international research expertise from University College London (Maplethorpe Fellow), University of Eastern Finland (Visiting Scholar), Monash University (now Adjunct Senior Research Fellow) and as Assistant Editor of the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research.
Julia is determined to support the next generation of researchers as: a Deputy Research Program Leader (Victoria University), Public Health Program Director (Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science), Honorary Senior Research Fellow (University of Melbourne), and Pharmacy Research Mentor (Western Health).
