Fiona Ellis-Jones is an award-winning journalist, national newsreader, and senior media executive with more than two decades of experience in broadcast news.
As Head of News and Information at one of Australia’s largest broadcasters, Fiona oversees a team of more than 60 journalists and shapes the national news agenda for a weekly audience of 10 million Australians. She is passionate about local storytelling and has led major newsroom transformations, pioneering the shift from traditional broadcast news to on-demand formats across broadcast and digital platforms.
Fiona spent 15 years as a national newsreader and executive producer for ABC TV and Radio, later heading the ABC’s Radio/Audio News division, where she had editorial responsibility for news on Local Radio, NewsRadio, RN, Triple J, and Audio On-Demand. She began her career as a reporter and producer with Nine News Sydney.
A vocal advocate for women and families, Fiona regularly appears in the media as an ambassador for the Red Nose Foundation. As a mother of five, including her daughter Elizabeth who was stillborn, Fiona works to support bereaved parents and raise awareness about stillbirth prevention in Australia.
Fiona is the recipient of the B&T Women in Media (Journalist) award and the Chief Executive Women Maureen Kerridge Scholarship, which enabled her to undertake executive education at Stanford University. She is also a committee member of Women in Media.
