Jo Withford
Project / Contract ManagerTransport NSW
With over 24 years of road and bridge construction experience, Jo has a strong knowledge of project planning, construction and maintenance issues. Jo was awarded a 5 year Scholarship to undertake a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) Degree from the University of New South Wales which she completed with Honours in 1996. Jo has also completed an Advanced Certificate in Transport and Traffic Management from the University of Sydney.
Jo commenced her career in the construction industry before heading into the design of prestressed concrete structures. She then expanded that experience as the Planning and Development Engineer in Darwin before commencing at Transport for NSW where she has spent the past 20 years building and maintaining road infrastructure across the Newcastle Region.
Jo has been able to successfully manage great work/life balance during her engineering career as well as raising three daughters with her Husband. Jo has always been very passionate about encouraging young girls and women to study and stay in STEM and this has been demonstrated by speaking at numerous primary schools and high schools where she promotes engineering. Her passion is to target children aged between 10 and 12 and hopefully break down the stereotype that STEM is only for the boys.
Jo is currently the Digital Services Leader for Transport for NSW’s Women in STEM Employment Network, a committee member on Engineer’s Australia’s Sub Education Committee and an Ambassador for Sydney Build 2020.
