The La Trobe Institute for Agriculture and Food (LIAF) is a world-class research institute for seed
production, food and health. Through its work it addresses critical societal needs relating to the
agriculture, food production and nutrition challenges posed by a growing population in a resource
constrained world.

Through LIAF, the agri-food and health sectors join forces to
• instigate major initiatives across four thematic research areas:
o Soil Science and Agronomy
o Seed Biology
o Nutritional Bioengineering
o Medicinal Agriculture• drive and support the adoption of emerging technologies and research infrastructure
• develop an entrepreneurial and innovative environment with multidisciplinary training
generating a highly skilled workforce
• respond to the challenges of sustainable agricultural production systems.
