New Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee: call for applicants

diversity spelt in scrabble letters

– APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED –

Science & Technology Australia is seeking candidates to join our newly-established Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, to support our strategic focus on leading better EDI in the STEM sector through practical resources and strategic direction. This Committee is a permanent Committee of the STA Board, and replaces the EDI Working Group. Terms are for two years, and members are required to participate in a minimum of four Committee meetings per year and contribute to the formation of EDI resources and policy.

Candidates wishing to apply to join the Committee should be a member of, or employed by, an STA member organisation and address the following criteria in a statement that is no more than two pages:

  1. What is your perspective on equity, diversity and inclusion in STEM? Please also let us know if you publicly identify as a member of an under-represented group.
  2. What do you hope to achieve as a member of this committee? What does success look like to you?
  3. What is your relevant committee, board, and/or EDI experience?
  4. Please state your STA member organisation and confirm that this organisation is aware of your application to the EDI Committee.

We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous Australians, people with disability, people from diverse faith, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and LGBTIQA+ identified STEM professionals.

The Committee is designed to broadly represent the diversity of the STEM sector. STA will give special consideration to candidates from under-represented groups, and seeks a broad range of disciplines, employer types, and geographic locations.
